Hi there! Ok so I've trawled through a lot of reviews, and as you can imagine am now competely lost as to which monitor fits me best!

I am an animator that uses my pc for the a wide variety of tasks:

3D animation (Max/Maya/XSI)
Video Editing and Movies
2D image processing (Photoshop)
Playing Games (predominantly FPS)
Doc writing and web browsing

So that's about everything, which means I need a good allrounder. I need a minimum size of 20" with 1600x1200 res and don't want to go to wide screen format.

I've narrowed down the list based on budget to the following:

Viewsonic VP2030B (£383.49) <- this is a bit over my budget!
Samsung Syncmaster 204B (£279.00)
LG L2000C-BF (£267.74)
NEC MultiSync LCD2070VX (£300.10)
HP LP2065 (£298.38)
Dell UltraSharp 2007FP (£258.49)

So can someone tell me if these are good enough and which one would be best? Theoretically of course, I haven't managed to see any of these first hand and would obviously need to before buying, but it would help if I can narrow down the selections, or perhaps be told of ones I have missed from this list. Cheers in advance!

maybe... It's MVA. MVA not as good on viewing angle/color shift as IPS.
Samsung Syncmaster 204B (£279.00)
no good for your task; this is a TN panel
LG L2000C-BF (£267.74)
Might be a pretty good choice; this is an IPS panel. However, it's colors are way off; you may want a hardware calibrator to fix it.
NEC MultiSync LCD2070VX (£300.10)
no good for your task; this is a TN panel
HP LP2065 (£298.38)
Might be a pretty good choice; this is an IPS panel.
Dell UltraSharp 2007FP (£258.49)
Might be IPS, might be PVA. PVA not as good on viewing angle/color shift as IPS.

So...
HP LP2065 (£298.38)
or the Dell if you can check it in-store and make sure it's IPS.

If you can find a glossy, screen, check that out too.

Thanks Kevin!

After some more digging I found out that the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP is S-IPS or S-PVA depending on panel model (LG/Phillips LTM201U05 and Samsung LTM201U1 respectively).

The HP LP2065 is S-IPS.

Is there any other monitor I might consider? Bear in mind that I don't mind about viewing angles as I'm only interested on how it looks when I'm on the comp, so I'll be viewing it straight on all the time. Also, as I work in the games industry, I do play a lot and want to make sure that I'm not making any sacrifices here!

At least you've narrowed down the list so now I can check out both these two monitors and see what they're like first hand.

Indeed that is what you would think, but there is one factor that many people are not aware of. Viewing angle affects the way colors look from one side of the screen to the other. If the viewing angle is not good enough, then a solid color will look different on one part of the screen than on another part of the screen. This is very, very bad for image editing, as you cannot tell if the entire graphic is a gradient, if part of it is a different color, or what is going on without moving your head around. The box specs that list viewing angle are pretty worthless, or in more accurate terms, a lie; they do not tell you at what angle the colors start to shift, which can be just a few degrees on some panel types. (Keep in mind, that even when you face the monitor head on, since the monitor is so big, parts of the monitor will always be at angles other than the ideal 90 degrees).
