Process monitor explorer.exe again and again

My windows 7 is freezing and unfreezing repeatedly. The mouse still works. I switched out memory, switched out GPU and still the same. My harddrive after diagnostics showed bad sectors but who knows if that is the cause.

I downloaded process monitor and it was showing windows media player network service repeatedly doing something so I disabled it completely which seemed to have a lasting effect but it is still freezing randomly, maybe a little less. I now notice in process monitor that explorer.exe is doing something different every second.

How can I figure out this very annoying problem.

I cannot run event viewer because there is a problem with the snap in and MMC.
