Hello all...

OK... I have a recollection of a text/graphical adventure game I
played as a kid - must have been 1984ish give or take a year. It
came on a single 5.25" diskette for the IBM. It was text at the
bottom and still graphics at the top. Probably only 4 or 16
colors. Anyway, I really enjoyed the game - but cannot for the
life of me remember the title and am not sure of enough of the
details of the game to try and give a description. I think there
was a beach and a dragon but I'm nowhere near sure. But I can
remember the music. I still hum the main tune to the music once
in a while. So, in an effort to track down the game, I've
recorded a bit of the music as best I can remember - it's poor
quality and may not be 100% right (20 years of tweaking?!) but
hopefully someone can remember the name of the game. I realize
this is a long shot, but...

It's in WAV format (Zipped) at:

It would be amazing if anyone could ID the game based on this,
but it's my only hope! If it helps, I think I bought this game
around the same time as Seven Cities of Gold (PC version).

After reading "beach" & "dragon" I already had a hunch. And after you
mentioned the music, I was 99% sure. And by the time I downloaded your wav
file (nice whistling, by the way), I was humming along.

The game is Dragonworld, by Telarium:

A fairly decent game, with a awesome music track. If you're going to steal
yourself a copy, however, do yourself a favor - go for the C-64 version
rather than the DOS one. The music & colors are better.

And if you don't want to steal it, buy the original (for Mac) on Ebay:

Amazing! That's it exactly. The music was amazing back in the
day. I can't believe I forgot the title but 20 years will do
that. What a great re-discovery for me - thanks so much for
coming up with the clutch answer!

Just for completeness - The Telarium games were usually based on real
world books - and Dragonworld is also available in RetroNovelForm! I
believe the game is something of a 'what happened after the final
chapter' affair (though I finished the game without reading the book,
and, for some reason, having no save function).
