Hi all,
Have a Intel board (D845PESV) running a P4 2.4 ghz processor. It has been running a Kingston 333mhz 512 chip in it. I wanted to upgrade my memory so I purchased a DDR-400 OC3200 (512M) from PQ1 chip and dropped it in the 2nd slot.
Promptly recieved an error about SD device not recognized and going to 200mhz etc.. at boot only 256M was recognized in the machine (with 2X512 installed).
Each chip individually worked (512M no errors) when put in slot 1.
No chip worked individually when in slot 2 (by itself).
If I put the new chip in slot 1 and the kingston in 2 it wouldn't error but would still only see 512.
Am I having a memory incompatibility? Did I buy the wrong chip? Is my slot 2 having problems?
Please help. I'm not sure if I'm going about this right.
It sounds like your second slot is having problems.

I'd have to use more spare parts to diagnose it, it could be anything from a cut trace to a damaged connector to an electronic issue. Or it could be a problem with either of the DIMMs. Or it could be a problem with the BIOS, or even the design of the board (if the modules are double sided).
