A friend recently told me about some a problem his laptop had developed. It is about four years old and running Windows XP.

He was using it one day just fine and then left it for a period of time and when he came back the monitor was shut off. He then said that he rebooted and just after windows started the monitor would shut off. I took a look at the laptop and couldn't even get into safemode. When I hit the key to go to get to the dos options so I could long on in safemode the monitor would shut off on me as soon as the dos screen popped up. Any Ideas?

There could be something wrong with the LCD or the motherboard. What laptop does he use? Are you able to connect it to an external display?

Its an off brand. I'm not to knowledgeable about it. I didn't have time to see about another monitor connection that night because it was really late but I'll check.
