Getting ready to upgrade my ram. Currently I'm running 256 megs of Kingston 2700 (333). Now here is the question, I'm going to be buying a new mobo which will probably consist of a P 2.4 and a MSI board to replace my AMD XP 2000+ and MSI board. Will I notice a huge difference between 333 RAM and 400 RAM. Meaning, should I ditch my current Kingston 2700 (333) RAM in favor of a stick 512 meg of 400 RAM. Or would it be wiser and cheaper to just buy another 256 meg Kingston 2700 (333) RAM. Obtaining 512 megs of RAM is the goal here while also referencing the acquisition a new mobo and chip.

Depends, which P4 2.4 are you getting? The 400, 533 or 800 mhz FSB?

What MSI board do you currently have? Another AMD chip, may be a better/cheaper upgrade, for you as you wouldn't have to buy a motherboard.

I have this board. (KT6 Delta)

I really do not care about buying another board and chip. I'm starting to wonder if AMD is starting to lose the processor war in terms of speed.

Not real sure which Intel chip to buy.

I was thinking of buying this chip

And this motherboard

Well that chip you linked to is an upgrade from your 2000+, but I don't think it is enough of an upgrade, to justify a new board and CPU (cost-wise).

A AMD 2600+, 2700+ would be just slightly better than that chip 2.26 ghz P4 chip, anything starting at 2800+ and up would be better yet.

The above 2800+ XP chip would be better in most cases, and is roughly the same price, and you can still use your current board.

At least with that 2800+ chip, it is "more" of an upgrade.

If you still wish to go the P4 route, you really ought to look at something at least in the 2.6 ghz range and up, to really give you a good performance boost. Otherwise, I don't think you will end up being real happy.
