I have a friend who is currently seeking out a laptop for school. I told her I'd help her pick one out to the best of my abilities and so I've been looking around at reviews and specs trying to find the best deal for her. However I have never purchased a laptop before or really looked into them, so here we are.

First off she will be using this for school so something that is huge and/or has a low battery life will probably be impractical. In addition to school she will want to do some light/moderate gaming on it, which is why I've been looking at something with an 8400M or similar gpu. Nothing fancy, but running some modern games at lower resolution and settings would be a plus.

Budget is approx less than $1000 CAD (Canadian!) so don't go too crazy.

Anything you guys would recommend?

For that low of a budget, nab anything with an 8400/9400 in it.
