Hello,
have an ancient HP LaserJet 4050 (best printer I ever owned)! got new computer with Windows 7. Need to go from 25-pin to USB and wonder if it will even work with 7 before I try to get a cable. Help!!

Loridporter,

Glad to see that ijack could verify compatibility for you. Should you require verification of compatibility in the future please note that Microsoft does have a great resource for this. The Microsoft Windows 7 Compatibility Center located at the following link: http://bit.ly/1gW6Ns and can be used for both hardware and software concerns.

For what it is worth. I had a problem with my HP 4050n on Windows & 64 bit.
The driver that seems to work the best, almost flaylessly, is for a HP P4515 PCL6. I don't know why but other drivers even the HP recommended Universal Printing drivers don't work. Whatever . . .
