Hey Everyone,

My dad is having some problems with his HD its an old drive 20GB and it was formatted in FAT32 but when he goes to open it, it doesnt show up on his Win98 Machine. So i took it to mine. I have WinXP the drive is detected but when i try to open it, it tells me that there is no file system on it and asks me to format it. How can i recover the File system and the files that where on it?

Thx

Try running Active Partition Recovery, if that fails, try grabbing the files off it with File Scavenger.

thx for replying. I tried the Active Partition Recovery and it didnt work. And as for the File Scavenger it seemed to have found all my old files from when i had the hard drive (wich was formatted) Interesting.. But i still cant find my dads files.

Oh ya i downloaded this program called GetDataBack For FAT and it worked great and was able to get all the file but the only problem was that when i tried to copy the files over to my drive it said "Copy Command Only Availible In The Retail Version" BAH HUM BUG!!

Thx

i had a similiar prob about a week ago. the easiest way to remedy this is get some data recovery software, like the one you said worked great but you needed retail version. You can either drop about 45 - 50 bucks into a 4mb proggy or you can try to dl a pirated one off some torrent network :-/ good luck
