Acer Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse

I have a new Acer Travelmate 5720.

I usually hook it up to an external monitor with USB mouse and keyboard, but also use it stand alone.

Earlier today I shutdown the laptop.

I *may* have unplugged the keyboard and mouse AND external screen whilst it was shutting down.

Later I tried the laptop on it's own. The Acer startup screen appeared, then the Microsoft loading bar, then...NOTHING!

I had to shut it off with the power switch.
I started it in safe mode and it started as far as the Vista logon screen but mouse and keyboard aren't working.

Plugged in a USB mouse and used the on-screen keyboard (USB one is elsewhere) and it started up.

I noticed the Synaptics pointing icon wasn't there. Also a couple of device drivers not working - not sure what they are for - one said Audio Device the other two wasn't clear what they were.

So I shut it down, connect an external display and it boots up in full windows mode, external monitor works, but laptop screen won't.
And keyboard/mouse don't.

I tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting.
Nothing.

I will call Acer next week but I want to be able to solve this sooner!
