I recently (last week) purchased and returned a Viewsonic VX2235WM.
The picture was gorgeous once windows had started, but it wouldn't display any of the boot screens. No bios screen, no grub screen and no windows spalsh screen. Just black.

My old monotor , a Princeton VL1916 works fine.

The Viewsonic Tech support lady told me that this was normal behaviour for LCDs on a DVI cable.. At that point I just returned the monitor.

Can this be true?
Is it an HDCP issue?
Has anybody seen anything like this before?
Is there a 22" monitor that shows all the resolutions with a DVI cable?

the boot screens did show up when using the analog cable, but then it wouldn't let me set the resolution to 1680 X 1050.

That is a problem with some Viewsonic monitors. You could try forcing the monitor to use DVI-D instead of auto-select, if you want to try again.
