i just bought the plextor 712a from newegg. ($100 w/$30 rebate). i got the bonus 5 disk package but i'd like to know what media people have had the best luck with. i checked the review on anandtech and they recommended the yuden. however:
a) newegg is out
b) the cost is $62 for a $50 pack
I have had no problems with any media used. I use Memorex, Maxell and Imation disks, and have had no problems.
Now, I have CD-R's from 10 years old, written to by a Plextor CD-R writer, and they still work.

Plextor is good with all type of media because Plextor use this technology where it can adjust the laser according to the dye or color of the CD. I have Plextor CD-R writer for 3 years and burn close to 1,000 CDs. It is alive and still kicking.
I use Memorex media with all my Plextor CD-RW and DVD-RW drives, and I've never had a coaster due to media incompatibilities or defects. I couldn't even begin to count how many CD-R and DVD disks I've burned! Hundreds, thousands ... it's impossible to say. I like the brand; good price, and consistent quality. And I also have disks burned years ago made with this combination of drive/media that are still viable, which is not something I can say about other optical drives and different brands of media I've used in the past. Many of those disks, despite careful storage, are now corrupted, and the data is inaccessible.

These are what I've been using and so far they have played back in both of our set top players and my five year old laptop. However I'm using a LiteOn 451s drive and not a Plextor. This merchant also has good deals on 8X media as well...
Hi All,
Along the same thread (I just bought the same unit), does anyone know if the difference between Roxio Media Creator 7.0 Basic and the 7.0 full version? Is it worth spending the extra money for the full? Do you consider this to be decent software or would you recommend something different? Thanks very much,
jchappj
