This was announced early this year to be released this February. Well it's mid march now and I haven't seen or heard anything, and the monitor isn't available... anyone know?

I read that it is postponed to June. The owners manual is on samsung's website already though. Im also anxiously awaiting this monitor. But I cant imagine myself waiting this long. I might have to make due with the Viewsonic 28", acer 26" or dell 24" :cry:

I just got my 2nd Dell 2707 in 10 days (first one died so they sent me a replacement). So far the new one is working fine - no dark corners, zero dead or stuck pixels, beautiful briliant colors, playing NWN on it compared to my old 19" Sony is like night and day.

Somebody in another thread said Samsung makes the 2707 panel - dunno if true or not - the box said made in China :). Anyway, if Dell would drop the price to say $1K I'd get another one in a NY minute :).

Well they share a common panel thats for sure. Only difference is the Samsung has extreme contrast ratio added. 3000:1 vs. 1000:1

Contrast Ratio claims are mostly horse-apples. The ACTUAL CR you are likely to experience is "usable brightness / black brightness".

And that is most likely to be "100-120 nits / 0.5 nits", or CR = 200-240.

Some monitors score much better on "blackness"... they will have the best actual CRs.... the Samsung 971P, for example.

Claims of "2000:1" or "4000:1" are just marketing hyperbole, so don't get sucked-in by such BS claims.

Any suggestions on good review sites where we can see independent measurements of these values? Dell's site just says "1000:1" and that's it.

Subjectively speaking, while I was playing NWN on the old Sony 19", with the same settings as on the first 2707 except for resolution set down to 1280 x 1024, the game looked terrible - everything washed out, dull colors, dark grey where the dungeon shadows are supposed to be black, ghosting, etc. I gave it up and waited for the new 2707 to arrive. I didn't bother setting the colors, etc on the 8800GTX for the Sony, since I wasn't going to use it more than a day or two. Amazing how LCD technology has improved in just 4 years.

BTW, Dell is now advertising the 3007 HC version for $1699 on their US site. About $200 more than the old, 80% gamut version. I think it uses the same panel as the HP 3065 and the same list price too :).

You can find some fairly recent reviews on XBit Labs website, but they don't have anything on the newest monitors yet.
