I am trying to connect an Acer 22"Wide Lcd to my Dell D620 laptop using the extended display option.

I am however limited to a 1024X768 resolution for the Acer. I cannot configure the resolution to the 1680x1050 native.

Any ides why this happens?

:( I'm trying to do the same thing. I have not been successful.

However, I've done something with my screen and now it will show things as its booting up, but never presents my icons.

I have no clue how to get it back. Any ideas?

thanks for any suggestions.

Same problem here. When I use the VGA cable, then I'm able to get 1024x768 resolution only. But when I use a DVI cable, then the screen goes black. But when its booting up, then the boot info of Windows appear on the same screen suggesting that there is no connection issue.

If you have intel Graphics Media Accelerator (integrated Video on the chipset), it will do it, as it's got a limit of memory for video. If you have NVIDIA or ATI video, then, try updating drivers from dell.com, to overwrite them, as they might be wrong.
