My XP Windows Task Manager lists a whole bunch of processes that I
usually don't use.

1) Wondering how those programs get to start in the background?

2) How to prevent them from being started?

Thanks.

Go to Start........Run.........type in msconfig........select the startup tab
and uncheck the processes you don't want to start automatically on bootup.
Don't uncheck your anti-virus!
