Heya, new forum member here, long time THG lurker however.

I did a search on these forums and came upon this link..
http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonderproremote/features.html

Don't care much for features. Just want good picture quality. Current system spec is AMD 1.4, Ge Force TI 4600 video card and over a gig of memory.

Currently I share our place with a roomie. If she is watching one channel on the actual TV with the cable box and I am in the other room with the PC .. will we be able to watch two different channels or are we limited to just one...?

Thanks !

Is the ATI the best to go at the moment?, price is not a factor, you get what you pay for usually, right? hehe

I have a AIW 8500 and also a X800 with the TV Wonder Remote.
It is a good quality unit, you have to update TV listing weekly if you want GuidePlus feature to work, but no subscript needed.
Only complaint, dont know if it is TV Wonder, is I cant get updated to MMC 9.02 from 9.00

BTW, I think the remote is awesome, radio remote, works without pointing it.

My MSI Tv@nywhere is coming up on 2 (maybe closer to 3??) years old now, and I haven't had any complaints with it yet.

I originally bought it because it was one of the cheaper TVTuner cards that was stereo. I was impressed, considering its price its a good deal.

hey i went to a buddys house and he had a tv tunner card. and said it just picks up his local cable channels without having to pay for cable i was wondering if this is the case all the time or etc. just looking to get some information

Your buddy is using one of them old fashioned attennas (Joking). Your TV Tuner card isn't going to magically hook up cable service to your house. Either your buddy is watching the local channels using an antenna, or got lucky and the cable company never disconnected his service.

So don't buy a TVTuner card hoping to get cable, as a TVTuner card really isn't any different as whats in your TV.

well no hes getting like 60 channels whatever the basic for cable is but said hes only paying for cable interenet so i guess he just got lucky or somthing. theres no devices out there that could do that?

OH there are things that give you free cable but they generally don't go inside your computer, and they tend to get you in legal trouble.

In my area you can't get cable internet without basic cable, is he sure he isn't paying for both. I was hoping just to get cable internet here, but they wouldn't let me do it without paying for basic cable first.

What is probally happening, is they are supplieing digital TV, and without the box, you get no TV via a digital TV.
Remove the converter, and you can only get non digital channels.
Most cable co's charge around 5bucks adtl for internet if not using cable.
Some do not block analog channels fed through same line.
Thus, you get all the analog channels for free.
Legal, I'm not an attorney in your area.

Tell him to take that coax and put it into a TV. He'll get the same channels he's getting with the tuner card. He's getting a cable video feed if the tuner card is picking up the signal and displaying on a PC monitor. Tuner/Capture cards don't grab video that isn't being pushed out already.

On another note getting back on topic. I've had an AIW, MSI, Leadtek and ultimately spent a few bucks and got a tuner/capture card with hardware decoding. The Hauppauge 350. If your on a budget the AIW card isn't terrible. If you want the best picture quality then spend the extra money and get a hauppauge.
