I'm choosing a laptop for my friend, and I don't really know much about laptops as I'm more into desktops. Please offer me some suggestions. The general guidelines are as follows:

cost: under £1000

Stability and reliability is the main thing, the laptop shouldnt break and therfore should be a good make i guess

screensize: between 12" and 15"

Storage size normal

fairly powerfull

light weight

long battery life preferable

wifi adapter

goodish sound/speakers.. (good but not great necessarily)

The laptop is for her teaching work, so probably i'm guessing she will use it for word documents, and office stuff. She also mentioned Skype.

You can configure a Dell Studio 15 laptop that would fit her needs nicely for around 7-800.

For her needs I would configure the system to include:
P8600
4gb of RAM (both of these for longevity)
MS Office Home/Student
