I have noticed that a lot of people still use an ATA 100 hard drive or have gone the SATA route. Is there a problem with 133, or does the 100 operate better? I know that SATA is 150mb/s, but does this really amount to a noticeable difference. Any advice is appreciated in advance. Thanks

ATA133 is a standard dreamed up by Maxtor and VIA. The "standard" standard is ATA100. That's why you don't see as many ATA133 products as ATA100 on the market.

As for performance, drives are still chugging along at ATA66 speed for the most part, even with their faster interfaces. The only time faster speeds are really used is in transfers from drive cache, which still tend to peak between 100 and 110MB/s, hardly a difference from ATA100.
