I have an OEM version of Windows XP Professional that I recieved when I
purchased my Gateway a few years back. Recently, I have completely upgraded
my computer including a new motherboard, processor, hard drive, etc. And I
recieved a new Product Registration key from Microsoft so that I don't have
to buy a new version of Windows XP Professional. Here is my problem...

I have a 250GB Hard Drive and I used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools
11 Tools to allow Windows to recognize all 250GB and break the 24-bit
barrier. When I install Windows XP Pro, it goes through the format and the
file setup fine (as far as I know) and then when it goes to boot, it goes
right back into the Setup Config...it doesn't go on to install Windows. When
the disk is taken out it just continually restarts and claims that there is
an invalid BOOT.INI.

I have tried completely writing zeros to the hard drive and then installing,
didn't work. I think I have formatted my hard drive a total of 5 times and
tried to install Windows at least 10 times. I have gone through every
possible angle I could think of.

Someone please help!

Thanks,
-Chris

Do not hit "any key" when XP's setup reboots the first time.
XP setup will reboot on its own. In other words, ignore the
message to press "any key" to boot from your CD Drive the
first time setup reboots on its own.

I have been to those sites and I have not touched anything after the install.
The only problem is that after it goes through the Install process and does
the "Your computer will reboot after 15 seconds", The option "Press any key
to boot from CD..." doesn't even appear. It goes directly to the setup
process again.

No...it did not. It went directly to the Setup Process the first time I did
it too.

Do you have a "Microsoft OEM Windows XP CD"
or a "Gateway Windows XP Recovery CD"?

I stated that in my original post. It is the Microsoft OEM Windows XP CD

OK. Next step. I am thinking that you had to change the bios to get the
computer to boot from the CD. Is that correct?

If so, when the first stage is completed you have to again enter the bios
and set the computer to boot off of the hard drive.

If that is NOT the case, remove the CD upon completion of the first stage.
The computer should boot from the hard drive. You will get a notification to
put the CD in the tray to continue. Do so.

OK, I may be totally off base here, but I'll throw it out anyway. Since this
is an OEM version of XP from Gateway is it possible that it is looking only
for the Gateway hardware to set up XP and since you have everything else but
Gateway the OS will not set up correctly with this version disk of XP?
