I am looking for a laptop for graphic design and 3d animation work, using Adobe software like photoshop, flash etc and expect to use autodesk maya and 3dsmax.
the 2 models im looking at are:
1- Dell studio 15
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66GHz/ 1066
FSB/ 6MB Cache)
4 GB ddr2 Ram
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
320GB SATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive
Dell(TM) Backlit Keyboard with Touchpad (English)
and has other stuff like wifi, bluetooth, dvd-r etc..
also i am gettign this with 64-bit Vista home premium as I've read that 32-bit OS does not recognize more than 3GB ram?

2- HP DV61110AX
2.2GHz AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-74
4 GB ddr2 ram
ATI Radeon HD 4650 Graphics
320 GB (5400 RPM) HDD
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±RW with Double Layer Support
and only ships with Vista 32-bit,
HP is not customizable in India.

What i would like to know is,
1- which is a better choice?
2- has anyone used/had any problems /or recommends this HP model as I cant find any reviews at all!
3- will 32-bit OS take full advantage of the 4 gb ram in the HP?
4- Does the 1 Gb graphic card compensate for lower 2.2 processor?
5- does 5400 rpm hdd make a significant difference?

Thanks. :)

Without a single doubt go for the first one, because :
1_It has a better CPU.
2_has a faster HDD which makes a difference when for example you want to load large amount of datas....
3_A 32bit OS recognizes max 3.5GB whereas a 64bit OS recognizes the whole 4GB.

About your question about VGA,1GB isn't very important and there isn't a noticeable difference between 1GB and 512MB.

The only advantage that the HP laptop has is that it has a little faster VGA(not much though) so definitely go for the first one.

Another query... I heard that the processor I've chosen in the Dell (intel 2.66 Ghz) is not really required?
What would be the optimum reqd for 3d animation and such? I definitely cannot afford beyond this but if i can get a lower one whihc would suffice then would like to go for that.
2.2 Ghz or 2.4 sufficient or shud I stick with the 2.66? I want the laptop to last me atleast 3 years!

Well if u can afford the 2.6 then go for it,otherwise go for 2.4,which performs closely to 2.6
