Hi. Got a Compaq EVO N610C with Win XP sp1 on it and after a pretty rough handling(went into the floor a couple of times) it seems like the harddrive has went down. ..Or(?). What happened here was the following: After a OS clean reinstall the system started to "truncate"(what's that?)a lot of files and soon it went down completly. Now the computer refuse to boot to Windows and only reboots and reboots and reboots in an eternal loop. Could it be the harddrive or is the MB and the CPU screwed as well? Or could it be the PSU that makes the temp to high? How can i troubleshoot?
It sounds like your windows installation is screwed, format and reinstall. The key here is "format", it will mark off any bad sectors on the drive.
If the problem re-occurs chances are bad spots on the drive platters are getting larger and you'll have to replace the drive.
