I have a Windows 2000 PC. When I open Add/Remove programs in Control Panel all I get is an empty window with corrupted headings. The 3 options down the side do not appear but are written across the top of the window in one continuous line like this:

“Change or Remove ProgramsAdd New ProgramsAdd/Remove Windows Components”

At the bottom of the window the close dialogue box is spelt “Cl&ose”, and the “o” is not underlined. I used to be able to access Add/Remove Programs OK but I can’t be sure when this started. I have tried reinstalling Windows 2000, but it made no difference. I have tried SFC /SCANNOW but my Windows 2000 CD is a restore type and SFC says that it can’t read the necessary files from it. My virus checker (Sophos) is up to date and I have scanned the drive for viruses. How can I get this program back to normal?

For info, I received a solution to this problem by posting it on the forum at pcadvisor.co.uk. Microsoft KB Q266668 pointed me in the right direction. I repaired IE6 and now the program is back to normal.
