...is being installed as I type. I'm a technician at Best Buy and we released it today, three days before it should've came out. Does anyone else have a *legal* copy of it or am I the first?

I was gonna say that I think valve made it so you have to register over the internet, and they are not taking any registrations untill the day of release.
Well hehe, talk about those awkward situations you see in comedy shows.
Guy comes boasting, showing off his new thang, laughing at everyone, then tries to operate the new thang, and it doesn't, while everyone's watching.
The Steam download was about 3 gigs I think. But, it was surprisingly fast, less than 3 hours it seemed. I've been waiting for a couple weeks for Tuesday to come along.
I wonder if it will be unlocked at 12 AM eastern time, so it will be unlocked at 9 PM pacific time on Monday night.

Don't have broadband for a Steam download? My bro preordered it online, but I'll have it atleast 10 hours before he will...

That is silly, man. You could have preloaded and use your retail CD Key to activate your game via steam. O well, no harm done I guess.

In the history of GameSpot, very few games are ever given a note higher than IGN and they are often too conservative or perhaps too strict. IGN gave it a whopping 9.7, calling it the best FPS ever. I can't wait, for sure, but right now I don't have time to play it anyways. I haven't even finished DOOM III!
But hey, gotta love the Canadian dollar, now we'll probably be able to buy it for a mere 5$ more than the US price, effectively the people down there are being screwed compared to us.
I prefer buying retail over online for software. Not getting a box or anything IMO ruins the whole feel of "owning" something. IIRC you get nothing by mail when you just load the game through Steam no?
I really don't know. I mean, you get the HL2 voucher, to get it via Steam, but that's all I know. If Valve allowed to get retail copies from online purchasing, wouldn't they have mailed most people by now so on Nov 16th they could play the game?
Yep. HL:Source is ready to go... unfortunately I'm on my way to a midterm right now and then a full day of class... and I've got homework for tomorrow... ugh not gonna be fun.
Started playing this morning. Totally rocks! I'm on the airboat part, which is pretty fun.

They had it out here last week in Ottawa Canada $60.00 Retail.
I have not purchased it and wont for a while probably. I hear Steam comes in the package so you don't have to download it all. Steam updates will soon drown out that little add-in.
I hope most of the cheating fook wads go off to Half Life2 and leave Day Of Defeat alone. As I also heard a new version of DoD is available with HL2.
If they have better net_code with HL2 that also supports the new version of the yet to be seen Day Of Defeat then I will snap up a copy of HL2 but I never botherd playing the first HL on those little maps. DoD has always held my attension due to the strategy aspect of the game and not directly because of the first person shooter in a sterile HL enviroment.
In any event after Steam opens the game up to the players the reports will come in. I am sure 60% wont have a P.C able to run it and of the 40% that do have the power to run it correctly they wont have the connection to play it unless they fixed the net_coding to slow the connection hacking down because it will have 10X's greater impact on the normal players ability to even play.
If I buy it to play and like it I am going to purchase my ISP's 5 MB cable modem over my 3 MB current modem. No extra monthly bill just a one time purchase of the new Extra High Speed Modem. Thier Gold Package.
