I am having a problem with my on board sound and hope someone can help. Here is what I have:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe with the AC-97 Sound
Logitech THX Z-560 4.1 Sxpeakers
ATI AIW Radeon 9800 Pro 128

All of a sudden I have no sound. when I check the Sound Max Control Panel it says neither the default playback device or the default recording device is Sound Max you cannot use Audio Wizzard

When I check the control panel for SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio Properties it say's
"Status: Driver is enabled but has not been started"

When I try to play an audio file I get the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

I have unloaded and reloaded drivers and I still get the same results. The sound is enabled in the bios. Any suggestions? Thanks

I guess you could try this:
1)Disable the onboard sound in the bios
2)Uninstall all drivers/software related to the audio
3)ReEnable the onboard sound
4)Install latest drivers/software from asus's website

I usually do that first if my drivers seem to be jacked. I think disabling the device makes cleaning driver/software off easier and sort of starts you on a cleaner slate.
If you go into device manager do any of the sound devices have yellow exclamation points next to them or anything?
