Where can I find a CMD.exe compatible command file utility
for doing simple persisting edits of the global %PATH% under XP?

4NT at JPSoft.com will do this.

Does it _have to be command line? You can do it for free with System
Properties (Windows + Break keys) -> Advanced tab -> Environment
Variable button.

Hi,

Pathman.exe (Path Manager) is the perfect tool for this. It will e.g.
handle repeated entries correctly.

Pathman.exe can be downloaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows20 [...] hman-o.asp

(will work fine on Windows XP as well)

Pathman.exe is also in the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads [...] layLang=en

(The kit will install on WinXP or later, and you can copy needed files
out from it as you see fit, and most of the tools will work for Win2k
as well)

I'm looking for an alternative to the Environment Variables form method.

Thanks for the hint about the keyboard shortcut to access the
System Properties form.

I've been aware of the 4NT products for a long time now, but never
wanted to get too dependant on restricted license utilities,
as I want solutions that I can access on many machines, even if I
just temporarily install them to do maintenance on an acquaintance's
workstation.
