Ok so i'm trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine, its a lenovo thinkcentre m70 exact same as this.

Basically there is no signal coming out of the vga port, so i bought a low profile graphics card thinking that the onboard graphics is bust, but still shows no signal, everything seems to turn on ok, fans spin, hard drive spins. there are no system beeps to let me know something is wrong, the ram is fine. Graphics card is fine as ive tested it on another p.c

Any ideas on what it could be or a possible fix would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Hi :)

It could be anything from ram to a dead motherboard and anything inbetween...

Fit a system speaker and tell us what error beeps you get....what sequence etc...

All the best Brett :)

hi, thanks a million for the reply, i fitted headphones to it last night and there is no sound at all, nothing. the ram is definitely fine, i tested it on another system i have. but if i take the ram out it then gives me error beeps to let me know there is something wrong, like the ram isn't in place

So i guess its probably the motherboard, but why would it give me system beeps for the ram and not anything else? surely it would give me error beeps? and as i said hard drives turns on, fans spin, everything seems normal but no signal.

could it also be the cpu? i took it out last night and had planned to put it back together but i seem to have misplaced my thermal paste, but from taking it out it looked like it was applied properly, nothing seems out of the ordinary so i doubt its the problem unless maybe the chip is dead altogether.

anyway, anymore thoughts on this are really appreciated

Hi :)

Ok...its not the ram...

Not unusual for no beeps if its motherboard or cpu....

Probably mobo to be honest...its VERY VERY rare for a cpu to go down...

All the best Brett :)

When Brett928S2 said "fit a system speaker" I think he meant he meant just do that. System beeps won't come through OS speakers or headphones. Does your motherboard not have a system speaker, either built into the case or taking the shape of a small cylindrical magnet on the board itself?

ah i was wondering what brett meant, in truth i put the headphones on to see if it loads up the os. but yes the motherboard has a system speaker because when i took the ram out it gave me the error beeps. but it doesn't beep for the no signal problem i'm having.

Thanks again guys.

Can you see any swollen capacitors - little black plastic cylinders - on the motherboard?

Hey guys i am getting the same problem. Actually my processor was not taking the load of any gui based game. So i gave my processor for replacement. After replacement when i put back my replaced cpu on the motherboard then there is no beep plus no screen on monitor. I have done every given troubleshoot on the net.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Take the chip out and carefully examine it for bent pins - it probably isn't connecting properly or maybe isn't the same spec as the original.

No there is no bent pin cpu is in best condition look wise and its the same model as previous one.

OK - you've made your point. :D  I assume it to be a dud then. Check all the other connections before sending it back.
