Hi, I recently ordered a Lenovo Y450 with a T6400 @2.0Ghz but when I checked my order status page it says it shipped with a T5900 @2.2Ghz. Is this an upgrade? I know the T6400 is 45nm and the T5900 is 65nm. Will I get better performance out of the older T5900 over the T6400 considering the difference in clock speed?

You probably won't notice a difference. The T5900 will consume slightly more power, though. It's an older technology at a higher clockspeed. Even though the T6400 has a lower clockspeed, the technology in it is more efficient. Honestly, though, unless you're really pushing the chips, they won't show much difference.

Ah, so they are pretty much even in terms of perfromance. What's "pushing the chips"? I will use my laptop for MS Office, MS Visual Studio for coding and sql stuff. Also, for watching dvd's and playing HD files along with mp3s. I also convert avi's/mpeg's to dvd here and there. Will it show a difference while doing some of those things? I think if a T6400 can really performe better with lower power consumption then a T5900 @2.2Ghz can then its not really an upgrade. Should I call them on it?

You would notice a slight difference in file conversions, but nothing really else for the rest of the things you do.

I see, eh I guess it's no big deal, thanks for your replys.
