I was just wondering to myself why ultrabooks and tablets (and hybrids) are priced so high and I thought I would ask for some feedback from the experts! :-)

I mean, we see new tablets, ultrabooks and hybrids with prices all the way up to 1500 USD which to mee seems extremely high when you can build a high end gaming computer with hardware so much more powerful for less.

However, I have heard talk about how squeezing hardware in small form factors is difficult and expensive and I figure quality touch screens and builds and quality cases of aluminium is costy as well.

But is it enough to justify paying quite a bit more than 1000$ for Windows 8 notebook/tablet hybrid or 700$ for either a Surface Pro with cover or an iPad?

Part of the reason I am asking is I am (was) gaining interest in this device http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8Zlwa-rpbI until I learned that I'll have to pay 1820$ where I live and that is just the i3 version! I mean, who can afford that for school or everyday use just like that? :-/

If you want chjeaper you have to go with Android OS: Windows RT is in its infancy and there is little competition. The Android devices, while not as dedicated to business apps, are very capable of net surfing, gaming and entertainment.
