Mouse works but computer won't respond

Hello,
I have Windows 7, fairly new computer. I was typing on word and the computer just froze up. The mouse moves, but nothing responds when I click. I restarted, started in safe mode, still no response. The keyboard works, I can go up and down with the arrows and tab, and enter, and I can type things in a search box in the safe mode help. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Try updating mouse software. Type Device Manager in the search box )this same thing happened to me except it was with a new webcam I installed.) Click on Device manager under "control panel" then find your keyboard and right click. Click update. Let it finish and if that does not work just reply.
