plextor is the shizzle from what i have heard. i would say they are rock-solid as far as stability.
and ya, i can't wait for the glorious day when there is no more freakin ribbon cable in my box! the 12x sata drives are around $140 though, so i imagine the 16x will be even higher... hence the chopping off of appendages
Speed is NOT good when backing up DVD movies!!!!! Marketing hype has clouded the reality of burning DVDs. I've helped thousands of folks on DVD forums. My advice to prevent errors, skips, freezes is to 1) Burn at slowest possible burn speed; 2) Buy high quality media like Ritek or Verbatim; 3) Make sure your ENTIRE system is ready for the burn and do burning only, no other tasks on the PC; 4) Don't waist your freaking money on speed hype!
I have the px712a, got it the day it came out, the plextor optical drives are the best on the market period, I wouldnt even considering upgrading to anything but a plextor.....stick with the best and forget the rest
