If I get a widescreen LCD, with native 1680 x 1050 resolution, what happens if my graphics card doesn't support that resolution? I'm thinking mainly of my laptop, which I usually have plugged into a docking station. Will the monitor scale the screen? Does it look really crappy when it's not at native resolution? Can I make the screen display it in "letterbox" style, using just a part of the screen, rather than scaling?
