my raptor 74 gigs is the loudest compinent inside my case, i need a solution for this, i was thinking of using those collermaster's cooldrive or thermaltake hardcano lines, but i think they only assist on cooling and monitoring but not at dampening/eliminating sound. is there any product that can assist on cooling and reducing noise considerably?

Encase it in aluminum plate! The thicker the better!

If they 74s are anything like the 36.7s they are fairly noisy if your case is not well insulated. My 36.7gb raptors make a high pitched scream, sort of like a dying monitor at a high refresh rate. It is strange though that some people can hear it and some cant, I guess it is at an odd frequency or something. My family thought I was crazy when I complained about the sound my hard drives made but some of my friends could hear it too. I could hear them all the time when they were in my old crappy case. I can't hear them at all in my new lianli case.
Just get some 5.25" bay hdd silencers like the Innovatek raptorVibes and put some dynomat or something similar on the inside of the 5.25" bay blank infront of the hd. That should take care of a considerable ammount of noise.

You are correct in your assumption about frequency. Some frequencys are easily heard by some people but not at all by others. We did a study last year that dealt with how being isolated from the rest of the world effected a persons mental state of mind. in one part of the study we used high and low sounds that are usually considered to be out of a humans hearing ability. We found that there are defintely physiological changes that occur when some of these sounds are used. ie. increased heart rate
