I have tried using Scion Image (Scioncorp ver. Beta 4.0.2) but appear to have
a conflict with Windows XP. I can open the application but upon openning an
image file eg .tif the program crashes. Any help would be lovely!

Beta software - not made by Microsoft....

Unfortunately.. Their web page states, "Scion Image is available free of
charge. Scion only provides full technical support to users of Scion Image
who own a Scion Frame Grabber board. No support will be provided to users
who do not own a frame grabber board from Scion. Please note that Scion
Image for Windows is currently in beta release and cannot be considered bug
free. Scion Image for Windows is available in Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP versions."

If you can still open the images with other applications, my guess would be
the Beta software and unfortunately - the makers of that are unwilling to
help unless you have bought another of their products. (Not to mention they
state it is not "bug free".)

Contact Scion Image support and ask for advice
troubleshooting their "not ready for prime time"
beta program.

Thanks Carey and Shenan,

BUT, is it possible it's a conflict with Service Pack 2? A colleague has SP1
and no problems. Regards, Mick

Possible? Sure - but it is still the responsibility of the makers of the
application to remedy the situation.

If you installed SP2 yourself - you can test it..
Download the SP2 installation file (for IT Professionals) and store it in an
easily accessible place (you can even burn it to CD.)
Unplug from the Internet (just to be safe) and uninstall SP2 (Control
Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.)
See if the Scion Image application works.

Either way - I suggest going back to SP2.

Yes it's possible that the said beta software won't work with Windows XP
SP2. The fix is the responsibility of the software publisher and they
will likely release a repaired version soon, as SP2 has been out nearly
a year.

Dear Shenan, Bob I,

Firstly thanks very much for taking the time and effort to advise me when
it's not a Microsoft program. Secondly, I've had an email from Scion and it
turns out there is a bug in the software that causes crashing if a file to be
openned has a filename + pathlength of >93 characters. This seems to fix it.

Cheers, Mick

Glad to hear it - some other bit of information to file away and/or a search
might help someone else with!

Thanks for coming back to tell us!
