I am looking to get a 22" ws LCD. I mainly use my pc for gaming, lots of reading on websites and some movies. Been looking at Viewsonic vx2235. Anyone has it ? Is it good for gaming? Any other recommendations ? I have a budget of about 350cdn.
The Samsung 226BW is arguably the best 22" LCD monitor.
However, three different type of LCD panels are used to make the 226BW and you will not know which panel you will be getting until you take it out of the box and look at the sticker on the back.
S Panel = Samsung
A Panel = AU Optronics
C Panel = ChiMei
The A & S panels were compared head-to-head in the following article. Both were rated above the competition, but the S panel is the preferred of the two.
Here are two other reviews of 22" LCD monitors for a total of 15 monitors being compared by the same review site. Therefore the testing method is the same for all the monitors:
Thx for the reply jaguarskx but I have already read those reviews and most of what can be found with google on the subject. What I am looking for is user input on games perf and stuff like that. So 22" lcd owners opinions are more than welcome !!!
I will get a samsung 225bw to try for a couple of days next week so that is good. From what I've read all 22" lcd have the same TN panels and after that it's a question of how the manufacturer implements it.
Yes, I actually have the monitor you're asking about. All I can tell you is that I personally don't notice any ghosting or ill effects when gaming. I went from a Viewsonic VX724 (rated at 3ms) to the vx2235 and I've been very happy with the vx2235 in all aspects. I did have to play around with the gamma at first but that's about it.
How it compares to the new Samsung rated at 2ms, I can't say.
Thank you this is exactly the kind of input I was looking for. What kind of games do you play ? I mainly play fps like hl2, q4, fear and also oblivion.

I play mostly BF2, Counter Strike Source, HL2, FSX. I have played FEAR and Q4 with it in the past as well.
Your 7900GS may be a little underpowered to run this thing at native rez, though. Going from 1280x1024 up to 1680x1050 is about a 33% increase in pixels and will stress your card a lot. I had a 7900GT at first with this monitor and it ran things ok, but I ended up getting the 8800 so I could run full rez with AA/AS.
Well guys I got the 225bw since yesterday from a shop where I am good friends with the owner so he gave it to me to try out and if I don't like it I just bring it back to him he will sell it as a demo. So far I've played hl2 native res everything maxed out 4x AA 16x AF and it stays at 60fps (vsync is on) sometimes 50 fps. (My 7900gs is oc'ed to 575/800) Oblivion ran fine at native res with no AA. From my first impressions I think I will keep the monitor and give the shop my VX922, my friend says he can still sell it for around 250cad.
I was kind of afraid to go from a 2ms screen to a 5ms one but I read somewhere that the human eye really can't tell any difference below 8ms and from my experience with the 225bw it seems so.
