Somehow, with the many other "issues" with this laptop, I've managed to lock myself out of my computer and it is now telling apon logging in that I now need a smart card. What the hell. I'm not buying another thing for this computer. My question, prior to throwing this thing in the trash, is how can I reset or restart or tell my computer to work without a smart card? Please help me before this laptop heads out to the landfill!

You would have had to change your local security policy in order to require a smart card at startup. You can try logging in as an administrator in safe mode, then using the computer management service to edit the policy.
