Hello there ladies and gentlemen, after a long absence I find myself reappearing in the country of China where everything has turned out to be incredibly cheap. More about that later.
To everyone who claims PC4000 is a waste of time and momey:
I have been running 512MB of PC4000 from ADATA for a year now and I can tell you that PC4000 is great memory and it's worth the price because whilst PC3200 requires heatspreaders to keep it cool at 400MHz my memory doesn't even get warm running at 240 with +.2V overcurrent and I have been running this pverclocked system for a year now and all the blue screens I have had were all software related (unfortunately Alcohol 120% is not perfect though it serves it's purpose very well) and not overclock (as I also have them running the system at 200MHz).
So to all: if you can help it don't buy Pc3200 but something faster as you'll find that the temperature of your motherboard and CPU will have greater effect on the temperature of the memory than the FSB.

False. PC3200 doesn't normally require heat spreaders, they're put there for looks most of the time. While most PC4000 uses heat spreaders, most PC3200 does not. Look at Micron and Samsung OEM PC3200 modules, these are some of the largest suppliers of PC3200 and they don't use heat spreaders.

I do not believe there has ever been an issue with PC3200 overheating at stock speed. Heatshields are mainly there for fluff. Most overheating comes from poorly ventilated cases.

Niether PC3200 or PC4000 need headspreaders for them to work. The manufactures know that enthusiasts buy PC4000 and they demand it for their memory.

Also if you get low latancy PC3200 and regular PC4000 they use the same chips. RAM companies do the same thing CPU manufactures do.

Still doesn't answer whether PC3200 and 4000 can be mixed without problem or not, as my 4000 runs at CL3. But I have seen PC3200 mem which got pretty hot at 230MHz (Samsung) and needed heatspreaders.

My friend has a computer firm and through him I have tested quite a few types and brands and the reason why I chose 4000 is because it only starts heating up at above 250 MHz. But I am not bothered about the heat I just want to know that they can be mixed.

Isnt there an ongoing debate as to whether heatspreaders really are necessary? I dont know. just had heard that somewhere. Also, im thinking about trying out the crucial ballistix RAM. I dont really care about gaming, but I do some things that use graphics. Nothing really big. I dont think at the present time I need more than 512 of ram, but 1G would be nice. Do you think that I would be better off sticking with the more expensive Ballistix at 512MB or A cheaper Crucial line and go up to 1G. I know 1G will still be more expensive, but I dont think I can afford to get 1G of the Ballistix.

Ya pc3200 and pc4000 can be mixed no problem. The performance of the memory will be limited to the slowest of the two dimms. You should be able to run the PC4000 at 200mhz+ and cl 2 no problem.

Go with whatever you can afford. The Crucial/Balistic memory is all about the same. They just set aside better chips for the balistic line of memory. Personally I think micron chip are not that good and you'd be better of getting memory from another manuafacture. Micron dimms never OC that much.
