I have a dell vostro 1400 notebook with the defective nvidia 8400m gs. :(
I want to replace the GPU with something else (any other card except 8600m). Is it possible to do so?
And i will prefer ATI chips (no Nvidia :non: )

Unfortunately, GPU chips are soldered onto your laptop's motherboard. Had to replace mine (good thing it was under warranty), and the shop had to replace the entire motherboard, not just my still crappy 8400M GS :P

I'm assuming you're no longer under warranty?

Yes my warranty's over but the extended warranty will be there for some time (from dell).

What if I have the same problem, ie my HP Pavillion dv2500, with a broken 8400m gs in it. My warranty is over, has been for about 6 months. Not a problem at all until this with the computer. Is it soldered in? Why does HP hate me? How much will it cost to fix?
