Hello all --

I just purchased an HP dv41220us laptop (new, not refurb)... Link:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] =dv41220us

I think it's a great machine -- I am partial to the AMD processor/ATI video combo (it's an RM-72 2.1ghz dual core with integrated HD 3200 graphics). Very zippy after getting rid of the bloatware.

I am having a problem:

There are no "cool and quiet" or similar settings in the BIOS (it's a dumbed down, OEM, HP BIOS), however, the processor is throttling its speed.

I set up the Windows power settings on "high performance" and set it to use 100% CPU power when on battery AND plugged in -- but still, watching through CPU-Z, the core speed throttles down from around 2.1GHz to around 1GHz, and the multiplier goes from like 10.5 to 5.25 (which I am guessing is creating the change in core speed) I made sure that my Catalyst video drivers were set up on 100% CPU as well.

Could this be a software conflict or is it a BIOS thing? Is there any way I can force the CPU to run at full speed without the auto-throttle, or am I stick because the stock BIOS is idiot-proof?

I am looking for settings I've missed, registry tweaks or even software overclocking, providing that I don't get it beyond "stock" (just want it to run like it should at all times)

Thanks!
