I need something to do during the Christmas break. Building a new machine would be perfect.

Shopping list:
Very robust ATX case.... good design, easy to access etc with expansion bays for additional hard drives..i.e storage media
Good sturdy and fast MB with a decent BIOS programme
P4 processor.. The 3.0 sounds okay though 3.4 or better would be ideal..(I'll be using this machine for the next 3 - 5 years so I'll want to have a decent heart that wont get outdated too quick.)
2 Fast hard drive or 1 Very fast one with 120gigabytes of storage. (do you know if there is new technology thats replaced SCSI?)
2 additional USB ports
512mb RAM
1 DVD RW
1 CD RW
Multi port card reader
Bluetooth technology all wireless peripherals: Mouse, keyboard etc
Wireless Keyboard
Wireless Microsoft or logitech mouse

So what do you suggest?

Nothing has replaced SCSI, but SATA is substituting it (as well as older PATA standards).

Serial SCSI.
SCSI is still the performance champ, you can get 15,000rpm drives up to 147gigs large.
