I have a HP Pavilion m7680y desktop. I had to replace the motherboard. My recovery disk were damaged so I orderd a new set for the model. The OS is XP. I was able to load the disk, but before Windows would start up, it required me to activate the microsoft program. I entered the information from the disc, but was advised that microsoft did not reconize the identification. I found out that because I replaced the board and obtained new start up disc the tatoo in the BIOS did not match and the only way to correct it is to take it to HP for their techs to recode the BIOS. I was also advised that my machine is about to be considered obsolete by HP and may not be able even for themkto work on it. Is it possible to purchases a new OS like Windows 7 and simply reload a new system onto the desktop.
