Games favor lower latency, DDR has lower latency than DDR2. Both can be done in Dual Channel mode.

The entire reason for DDR2 is that Intel was looking for a memory type that could be clocked higher. The introduced DDR2 at low speed in order to make it common when the newer speeds were introduced. As always, the early adopters get shafted (just as they did with the PIII and RDRAM). So DDR2 right now is for people who want the "latest" stuff and don't care or understand that it's actually SLOWER.

Dual Channel mode offers 128-bit RAM tranfers for two standard 64-bit modules. It's the "Dual Channel" you spoke of, allowing two times the memory bandwidth via parallel transfers to 2 banks of modules.
