Get some crucial ballistix from here <A HREF="http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Ballistix_Kits.html" target="_new">http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Ballistix_Kits.html</A> they are doing a special cristmas deal on crucial RAM here. + the ballistix range is sposed to be the best memory on the market.

Reply to jammydodger

eeeeeeerrrrrrrrmmmmmmmm, i've already said i wouldnt go away from corsiar, but thanks anyways.

Reply to bigbang

I use these, and am very happy with performance Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPRO.

I this article from anandtech both OCZ and crucial RAM were given the editors choice over the cosair XL pro RAM. <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2145&p=20" target="_new">http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2145&p=20</A>.
Crucail ballistix also achieved the lowest memory timmings anandtech had ever seen.

Why are you so keen to stay with cosair? Crucial ballistix is cheaper and a little better.

Reply to jammydodger

the reason why i stick to corsair, is simply because i trust in thg reviews and not any others and according to this my friend http://www.tomshardware.com/firstl [...] _confirmed
corsair xl pro is the best choice for me. your review by the way, doesnt give any information if their tests are dual channeled or just one stick.
i wanna see if i can save a couple of ponds buying something very very similar. by the way im sure if yo ask people ,they will agree with me that corsair makes the best performance rams

I'm not trying to make you angry by pointing all this out, but for someone asking for suggestions you seem to already have your mind made up. As for the other comment you made, it just doesnt make sense. Why would you think that the answer is always going to be Corsair? I have Corsair RAM in my system and in my opionion its great RAM, but there are alot of people here that feel like Crucial is the best and they are usually correct. Here is one more thing that you may or may not want to consider. I benchmarked my system with Corsair PC4000 and Crucial Ballistix PC4000. Crucial came out on top. The difference was minimal, but thats not my point. Unless you test both brands in your system, there is no definitve way to know which one is going to perform better.

Reply to mozzartusm

Actually the majority of people at the moment agree that crucial ballistix is the best performance RAM. PM Crashman and ask him. anandtech is one of the most trusted web sites on the internet.
Im not saying that cosair are a bad brand at all, Im just saying if I could save £25 and get RAM that is just as good as cosair then I would do it.

Reply to jammydodger

yea, you are both right, my posts did have a conflict. but consider aswell that i said "im going for corsair, but give me your opinios", now your opinions doesnt necessarily convince me, im just asking for them and you can see in the second post ive sent "thanks anyways" meaning your opinions are appreciated.
now the question is, are you sure 2 crusial pc4000s will work as good as TWINX1024-3200XLPRO? consider that i use 2 512s, will there be the same timings for overclocking?

i will still tell you btw that i dont trust anysite other than thg. you can see differences in benchmark results from site to site, but i trust in thg results.

shall i buy 2 of these:
http://komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=301860&cks=PRL
or a kit from here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acat [...] _Kits.html

Im guessing that your were asking me the question. What I am saying is that each indivdual system is sorta like each indivdual person is. They all have slightly different personalities. In my system, Crucial slightly outperformed Corsair. In yours, the outcome may be different. The only way to know for sure would be to test both of them under the same conditions. Just in case your wondering why I am using the Corsair instead of the Crucial Ram its becasue the Crucial Ram was someone elses. Remember that I am not putting Corsair down, I am just telling you what my personal experince has been. Corsair and Crucial are both very good products.

Reply to mozzartusm

i dont deny that, i wanna get an idea of which good rams will be cheaper for me to buy. now you come up to me and say they have a slight difference, same as some one else, if the crusial is cheaper, i will buy it, no problem. i will be the judge, you dont worry, yo just tell me which one you prefer.
by the way what is your pc specs?

Almost forgot to add this. My corsair Ram doesnt run as stable as Crucial would at the lower timings that Crucial is rated at. I cant remember the timings but is seems like one of them was- Crucial CAS Latency 2.5 and Corsair 3. I dont remember for sure, but I think that Crucial will run slightly lower timings.

Reply to mozzartusm

Problem is THG has'nt tested crucial ballistix yet as far as Im aware.
Crucial RAM should work fine in pairs, most good RAM can work well in pairs as long as the modules are similar. More importantly what motherboard are you using?

Here it shows cosair modules being imcombatible with 3 of the 18 boards tested and at the wrong speed with 1 <A HREF="http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20040602/memory_modules-24.html" target="_new">http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20040602/memory_modules-24.html</A>. Interesting enough crucail is at the wrong speed with 4 boards but is compatible with all of them...and this is just the standard modules not even the ballistix range.

hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm, seems like you havent read this article:

i've posted it before, corsair cl=2

Reply to bigbang

i've sent my pc specs at the begining, check it out

Reply to bigbang

Oh right, you are using a 865 so most RAM should be compatible with it. The crucial RAM will def work in dual channel mode as they sell it in dual channel kits. Crucial ballistix RAM has the same timmings as cosair I believe.

I said I didnt remember for sure. I was giving you the results that I found with my system. I just went to Corsairs web site and the timings that my memory is rated at is not 2 but 3. If you want to be be a smart_ _ _, then go right ahead and be one. I can waste my time doing something better than having you lecture me about what I have or have not read. I know what my timings are rated at, and I know what they will run stable at. Just talk to some of the other people here the way you keep talking to me and see how far it gets you.

Reply to mozzartusm

ok ok calm down. didnt mean to harm you. just said i've sent some links and you havent read them. if you feel insulted by any means im sorry and go away... corsair 2x512 pc3200 xl pro runs at 2-2-2-5 which from what i;ve heard and read. is not achievable by any other company. now i could be wrong....

Reply to bigbang

As I said before, anandtech said that crucial ballistix had the best timmings they have ever seen.

Reply to jammydodger

yea, in fact i am wrong as Crucial PC3200 BallistiX runs at cl=2 as well

Reply to bigbang

come on now, stop arguing about which one is better and tell me which one to buy from those links

Reply to bigbang

To be perfectly honest I would just go with the cheapest option. You really arnt going to notice that much of a performance difference with lower latencies because P4's do not benefit from them much.

Reply to jammydodger

ok, cheers everyone, made my decision. crusial balli something for cheap :)

Reply to bigbang

Dont get above PC3200 unless you plan to overclock, and dont get the twinmos modules. But any matched pair of cosair CL2 modules will do you fine.

Reply to jammydodger

Good man, you wont be dissappointed. Plus the balli heat spreaders look pretty cool  .

Reply to jammydodger

eeeerrrmmmm, that was interesting, shall i not get crusial balli pc4000? i want to overclock my p4 2.8c and run it on 3.2?

<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by BigBang on 12/07/04 09:19 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

Its really not that big a deal, as long as your buying from the best manufactures, which have been mentioned here.
Use your mind, and analyze the specs and order away. The dispute you are creating is not significant in real world benchies as far as performance can be observed by the user. Download the specs and prices of the best ones you have narraowed it down to, sleep on it and you will have your answer in the morning.

lolz

it is important. see i wanted to buy corsair 2x512 3200xl pro, now i know it doesnt have much dufference from crusial balli 3200. so im saving 30 ponds on that which is 50 dollars. still think its not big a deal?<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by BigBang on 12/08/04 04:03 AM.</EM></FONT></P>

Reply to bigbang

Overclocking from 2.8Ghz to 3.2Ghz requirers a 33Mhz bus increase (200-233Mhz). This means that you will need PC3700 in order to be assured your RAM can take it. To behonest nowadays any good brand RAM PC3200 will be able to overclock to those speeds (in fact low latency modules are generally better overclockers than those advertised at higher speeds).
But just to be safe I would recommend getting PC4000, its not much more expensive and you are gauranteed it will work at the correct speeds.
