Web server Software

Last response: in Applications

I want to build a webserver for a small home office, (very small)hosting fewer than 5 sites, may expand later.

Which is better, Win 2k or apache/linux? I'm leaning on apache/linux but I'd like some opinions.

All help/advice/relevant opinions appreciated.

thanks,

Lynne

I have worked a bit with Apache but mostly with Win2k. I like the Win2k interface and usability but some people are really into linux. I am not the best person to recomend on this but I do like win2k, however it is what I know.

I hate picking fights... but it's so fun

It is maybe late for this anwser, but, if I had to built one
like yours, I would opt for Linux/Apache. Simply because Linux
needs less power to run than Win2K, then you can simply use
a old 486 or cheap Pentium as server.

It may save you cost that you can better spend on your worksttion.

I plan to built myself a network that would look like:

486 DX/4 100MHz running Linux/Apache/...
An Amiga workstation with AmigaOS
An Athlon based machine with Win98

I will use Samba to share files between machine since I will use
different OS.
