For printers you should stay with HP (or Epson).
Hp are preferred as they are supported with the hplip modules.
However if you insist on using the Canon then you will require drivers from www.turboprint.de who provide them at a cost of euro 29.95 or $39 but this only provides print function the scanner does not work.
Well recommended are the HP C3180 and C4180 which work fully including the scanner using the open source software from hplip.sourceforge.net
