My computer is not working properly, too many little things keep happening.
I want to wipe my hard drive and completely re-install XP. I have an upgrade
from Win 98 and I don't the disk anymore. What can I do. Also I remeber that
you cannot erase from DOS you have to do it from the disk? Am I remebering
this right? Any comments would be welcomed.

well first of all you have an upgrade version of XP...you will need a
previous operating system (98/ME/??) on an installation CD in order to
install XP.Got any friends??
XP will let you format the HD during the install. The format will wipe
everything off the HD.So save what you wish to save beforehand and be sure
that you have the programs that you want to reinstall available.

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem

When your computer is booting up, you should change the BIOS to attempt to
boot from CD before the hard Drive

Insert your Windows XP CD and reboot your computer

When prompted boot from the CD.

This will begin Windows Setup. Although yours is an upgrade disk, you should
still ahve the option to delete the current partition and reinstall a fresh
copy of XP.

Follow the prompts.

Just note that this process will totally wipe the hard drive. Also, with an
upgrade disk, this will only work if you have a Windows 95+ Operating system
ALREADY INSTALLED. In other words, be sure you have some version of Windows
running before you attempt this. Yes, it can be the exact same copy that you
are trying to install.

Good Luck.
