Computer freezes after upgrade?

Hi, after I upgraded MB, CPU & RAM, without reinstalling W7, system works fine except some programs freeze.
Programs that freeze are firefox, thunderbird, utorrent, windows explorer,
Freeze last for couple of seconds and usually unfreeze, but sometimes I must end firefox in task manager.
I tested RAM with memtest 100% OK,
I didn't OC, everything is in default settings,
what could be the cause?

More about computer freezes upgrade
  1. Did you install the drivers for your new motherboard when you upgraded? There may be some issues with the ethernet driver from your old motherboard.
  2. I installed new drivers from CD. MB is asus P8Z77-V LE, CPU intel 2500K.
I don't see any old drivers in device manager.
How can I fully cleanup old drivers?

This problem really puzzles me...... what else can I try?

Machine is acting as it is too weak to perform tasks,
when I open new tab in firefox, of when I play some youtube video it freezes...
also if I copy files in windows explorer and in the same time try to start firefox it freeze or take too long to start...
  3. It still might be a driver issue. What was your old MB? You could try doing a Repair install of Windows, to give it a chance to get the correct Windows drivers for your new MB.
  4. It was asus P5KPL-CM, CPU q6600.
  5. Best way is to do a fresh W7 install.

  6. It could be a hardrive problem. Run a chkdsk. When my drive failed it would randomly freeze until it got worse over time. It might be a good idea to do a backup.

I don't think it is necessary to do fresh install every time, because it is not very serious problem.

Good advice, I seem to forgot that,
I just run a chkdsk and it found errors, after it finished system is running faster, looks like that was a problem, or at least part of the problem.
Dont know what caused disk errors, it is OCZ 120GB vertex3, didn't have problems before.
    Here is part of log:

CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)...
Cleaning up instance tags for file 0x17e64.
Attribute record of type 0x80 and instance tag 0x4 is cross linked
starting at 0x4ad4f0 for possibly 0x7 clusters.
Some clusters occupied by attribute of type 0x80 and instance tag 0x4
in file 0x4b5c9 is already in use.
Deleting corrupt attribute record (128, "")
    from file record segment 308681.
Cleaning up instance tags for file 0x69f87.
    595200 file records processed.

after this there was no errors, if anyone can interpret or explain cause of errors?
could it be due to electric shortages that I experienced lately, since I don't use surge-protect device?

I uploaded entire chkdsk log here

Didn't know that we were talking about a SSD. Be careful..When your SSD starts showing CHKDSK type errors, it could be on it's way to failing. :o
  10. Try look/check for new firmware for the SSD... sometimes it could be SSD firmware issue...
  11. thanks for help

is there a proven program to clean old drivers and unnecessary .dll and other driver files in windows folder (that would not mess-up my system) ?
  12. I find a process 'google update' that appears sometimes in task manager,
I think it coincide with freezing, after this process finished I cant find it in C:\Users folder in windows explorer
It looks suspicious... I scanned disk with AVG but didn't find anything...
Anyone has similar experience with 'google update'?
  13. UPDATE:
After I turned off AERO system works more stable,
it is not so often that it freezes and if it does, it unfreezes faster, within 1-2sec, when earlier with aero on it will be sometimes minutes to stay freezed and only could restart whole system.
So, based on this experience where to look for a problem?
  14. I experience this problem with motherboard once or twice a week,
should I conclude this MB is faulty? Tested HDD surface, tested memory with memtest, power supply is new and enough power.
