Middle Click on mouse

The middle click on my mouse has stopped working. Its a 'Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0'
I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers (IPx64_1033_7.10.344.0) from microsoft, and it hasn't done anything.
Under Mouse in the Control Panel, it has the Wheel Button set to 'Middle Click'

Does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong?

I got a microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 4000 v1.0, my friend got one as well, it screwed up after 4 months or so for him, as in whole mouse. ive had mine for at least a year now, goes pretty well still, however the middle button is kinda sticky and doesnt work that well, is that what you mean? Or can you actually push down on it yet nothing happens? Have you got the latest intellipoint drivers and set it up correctly to your mouse?

I haven't used Microsoft mice, but with my Logitech you can go into the settings ( as I'm sure you know since you know it's set as middle button ), however I think it works better personally when I set it to "Generic Button" instead of "Middle Button". Just a thought you could try. I don't know if the MS ones have setups like that

as i said, i have the latest drivers...
the button will actually push down (my friends Razor got messed up because the buttons wouldn't move) but it doesn't do anything. Scrolling w/ the wheel still seems to work though
