Do Compaqs use all standard parts? Im looking to buy a fairly bare bones system to start and upgrade it slowly.
I got burned by Dell because you can not upgrade their power supply or motherboard easily.

Any thoughts?

I have a Compaq SR2149UK, I have upgraded the PSU, Graphics Card, New CPU cooler and added another Hard Drive without any problems, If that helps. :)

Just build your own to start with. Why begin with crappy big box PC parts?

I'd recomend HPQ makes, because HP or Compaq, whatever the brand name is, usually provide pretty complete information on disassembly of the notebook. Usually the GPU is not something to upgrade unless it is an "offboard" solution. otherwise they are pretty good.

Hey I will suggest you too go with Compaq ya its not like dell and the good thing about Compaq is that you can upgrade it but the only thing you need to keep in mind is that initially upgrade such parts that are mostly compatible almost all types of computers then go for big upgrades.
