I saw an automatic Mah-jong table on eBay for less than 100$!
Looks worn out, some pieces missing, and not functionnal, but maybe
worth it for the spare parts or to start a reconstruction.
There's also another catch : the winning bidder must be picked up
within seven days after end of auction in a Los Angeles' warehouse. No
shipping offered.

The firms that produce these items are mostly in Japan. The prices for
these things are extremely high too (to my purse at least).
Just checked the auction > High bidder - tsloper ^_^ I'm praying you

This auction is almost too good to be true - I wish I was in CA too.

All the ones I know are all in Japan and China. There's a Chinese
compagny who's planning of distributing tables in the US. But, I'm not
aware of any plans for Europe.

And be aware of the follow-costs if there are some pieces missing or
broken. You can follow thge threads for our two MJ-shuffle-tables if
you search via google.
But my experience is that all communication & money was it worth to
get a functioning MJ-shuffle-table.
Best regards from Germany,
André

I already have those threads archived. If I win the auction, I can get to
them quickly.

Congratulation Tom!
You're the winner!
I'm amazed it was sold for only 52$. Even you're not able to fix it,
it's worth the money.

Please write extensively about it on your site, like André did. How do
you pick it up, how do you get it in your appartment, how you fixed it
(~_^), etc. I guess it is an interesting piece of furniture, you will
have to get rid of your lounge suite ;-)

Yes, I just got home from teaching Game Design in Hollywood and saw the
email from eBay. I'm all a-twitter! Oh, and Nath - you're in Montreal, eh?
I think I'm coming there in November (to speak at a game development
conference there) - hope to meet you then.

Wow, great! Those files are specifically for a machine called Jansui, by
Cosmo - we'll see how applicable these are to my machine (I haven't received
pickup instructions from the seller yet).
I can read the part names (MG Idling, MG Idler Assembly, MG Rollers, etc.)
but now if I could also read the verbs (the parts that tell me what to do
with the named parts)... (^_^) But we'll see what's up with the thing when
it comes home. As Martin predicted, a big challenge will be figuring out
where to put it. Some other furniture will have to go, methinks.
One thing at a time...
Cheers,
Tom

I bought two used tables when an asian hotel in Germany was renovated
- one table for André Marohn, the other for me. With the great help of
André both tables are shuffling again.
And now we will have a little shuffle table tournament with our dutch
friends in July ...

On the side of your table their is the kanji "jan" (like in ma-jan) and
the kanji "sui" (like the Japanese word for "drunk" ), so I assumed
you've got an "jan-sui" machine.

The automatic translations made by http://eigo-navi.com/ are good enough
to be understood. In the yellow form, type in the URL of the page you
want to translate. Select 日本語 > 英語 (Japanese > English) and press

Omigosh, I saw that there were characters on the eBay picture of the
machine, but I didn't look closely enough. Your link was clearly more
on-target than I'd realized!
> The automatic translations made by http://eigo-navi.com/ are good enough

Well, I was just doing my usual "aw shucks" routine. I would have figured
out a way to pass those characters through Excite's or Google's translation
pages, and probably would have gotten something useful from them. I've
already printed out the PDF files from your second Jansui post. THANKS for
the new Japanese translation site - it will definitely get some good usage!
(^_^)

Yep, that much I usually manage on Excite's page. It's at
http://www.excite.co.jp/world/, BTW. In fact, I had to use it just a couple
days ago to understand some product descriptions for a possible client. The
stuff Excite generated was understandable enough for me, but I just know
that the client would be thrown for a loop if I just showed him the
translations without me translating the translations for him. I'm used to
trying to deal with my poor understanding of Japanese, coupled with poor
English from my Japanese counterpart, and coming up with a workable
understanding of what's going on. But there I go "aw shucks"ing again...
Cheers to all - the congratulations on the auction are kind of overwhelming.
Now to get a reply from the seller, arrange a pickup, get the thing home,
and see what's up with it. I'll keep everybody posted - but no promises that
it'll be as detailed a "diary" as what Andre wrote. (^_^)

I waited through the weekend, sent a couple of emails to the seller, and
never got any replies. Today I closely examined the eBay auction page, and
discovered a clickable link that was not at all obvious. It led to a map of
the location, so today I phoned a friend who drives an SUV. He's taking me
