So, I've had my current terayon tj715 cable modem, that came with comcast for a good 3 years, and works fine no prob.
My question is that does it make a difference with the modem you get ie speed/performance.

Personally, I believe that it does make a difference, but not much, with the brand of the modems you have in terms of speed and performance. Most importantly the durability and reliability. You can always check your cable modem speed online. Quite a lot of sites are offering free test on your line speed.
